The group works closely with the team of clinicians from all disciplines at the Melanoma Institute Australia, of all disciplines, together with national and international collaborators on a wide range of melanoma clinical trials, investigator driven research and laboratory studies.

The Research and Biostatistics Group’s primary activities focus around:

  • Coordination of the research activities of the Institute

  • Analytical and biostatistical input to the research activities of the Institute

  • Retrospective studies involving data retrieval from the Melanoma Research Database (MRD)

  • Supervision of Research Fellows, International Students and Visitors conducting collaborative research projects at the Institute

  • For consumers, to provide a source of aggregated data on melanoma incidence rates and mortality based on the largest melanoma practice in NSW

The Melanoma Research Database (MRD) provides up-to-date facilities for MIA clinicians/research/clinical trials and administrative staff to view, monitor and update patient clinical records. The day to day activities of updating the database are managed by Maria Marcone, Senior Data Manager, together with Kim Dowling and Ashna Sharma. The Group is supported by an administrator, Tessa Milne. Requests for data retrieval and statistical analysis are managed by two analysts, Lauren Haydu and Bernadette Le Mesurier and a senior biostatistician, Associate Professor Julie Winstanley.
