SUMMARY:Run from the Sun Program
DESCRIPTION:Over the past five years Skin Cancer Tasmania has held an annual event called Run From The Sun (RFTS) which is the brainchild of Ken Harriss\, a nurse living with Stage IV melanoma. RFTS provides information free of charge to secondary school students and teachers around sun safety\, UV radiation and melanoma. \nMelanoma is the second most diagnosed cancer in men and women in Tasmania and the most commonly diagnosed cancer between the ages of 20-39. We lose more Tasmanians to melanoma each year than our average road toll. Yet this is a highly preventable disease. \nThis essential awareness and health promotion program is aimed at year 7 to 12 students and usually runs between 45 minutes to 1 hour. It can be tailored to specific year groups\, health studies classes or whole of school assemblies\, and will benefit both students and teaching staff. \nIn 2022\, RFTS will travel across Tasmania visiting different regions over a three-week period: \n\n5-9 September – North West and Western regions\n12- 16 September – Southern region\n19-23 September – Northern and Northeastern regions
