SUMMARY:MRFF EMCR Initiative - Early to Mid-Career Researchers Grant
DESCRIPTION:The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) –2026 Early to Mid-Career Researchers Grant Opportunity will support research to build and grow research capacity and capability in Australia by supporting Early to Mid-Career Researchers (EMCRs) to continue their health and medical research careers. \nThe objective of this grant opportunity is to provide grants of financial assistance to support medical research and medical innovation projects that: \n\nStream 1 (Incubator): conduct early stage\, small scale research\, led by early career researchers\, that seeks to assess the potential and feasibility of novel strategies to address a critical or intractable health issue in one or more Priority Populations.\nStream 2 (Accelerator): establish a large-scale interdisciplinary research program\, led by mid-career researchers\, that drives implementation of substantial improvements to health care and/or health system effectiveness for one or more Priority Populations.\nStream 3 (Targeted Call for Research): utilise co-funding to accelerate the translation of research led by early or mid-career researchers into policy and practice. DESCRIPTION:We are proud to open a new Annual Grants Round in 2026\, made possible by the continued support of our community\, partners\, and fundraisers. \nThis year’s Grant Round is open to applications in the following categories: \n• Early Career Research Grant\n• PhD Scholarship\n• Prof Richard Scolyer Award for Brain Cancer Research for Early\, Mid and Senior Career Researchers \nThe Tour de Cure Grants Committee follows an ethical\, independent\, and transparent selection process when reviewing applications. \nWe are committed to funding innovation and excellence\, using our resources to support the best Australian-based projects and researchers. As a cancer-agnostic organisation\, we consider applications across all cancer types. \nDemonstrating a rigorous selection process\, choosing the strongest projects\, and maintaining sound project governance – all grant applications are assessed on merit. \nAn EOI (Expression of Interest) is required for all research grant categories listed. EOIs are reviewed in Round One by the Tour de Cure Grants Committee. Successful applicants are then invited to submit a full grant application in Round Two\, which is assessed in detail by the Grants Committee who then makes recommendations to the TDC Board for final decisions in December. \nInstitutions supporting individual researchers may submit no more than two applications per grant category. This limit applies even where an intermediary body\, such as a foundation\, applies on behalf of the researcher. They are distinguished by their ability to: \n\nLeverage deep expertise and visionary curiosity to frame significant\, non-obvious questions\nDraw connections across disciplines to generate and test novel hypotheses\nPursue unconventional lines of inquiry\, even at the risk of failure\, with the potential for transformative success\n\nUltimately\, CRI STARs will advance fundamental or translational discoveries that shape the development of immune-based therapies\, broadening their impact for patients worldwide. CRI STARs not only drive innovation\, they are defining the future of cancer immunology. \nThe Lloyd J. Old STAR Program provides $1.25M over a 5 year period. Institutions will be provided indirect costs of up to 10% of the total amount awarded.
