SUMMARY:Melanoma March 2025
DESCRIPTION:Melanoma March events are being held across Australia for the 14th year to raise awareness and help save lives from melanoma. \nMelanoma Institute Australia (MIA) is calling on all Australians to join its 2025 Melanoma March campaign\, to raise funds and awareness about the disease that claims one Australian life every six hours. \nNow open for registrations\, MIA’s Melanoma March events will be held all across the country during March 2025 and are organised by volunteer committees impacted by melanoma. \nFunds raised during Melanoma March 2025 will support the development and updating of the National Melanoma Clinical Guidelines\, which are not funded by Government. These guidelines are vital to ensure all melanoma patients across Australia benefit from current evidence-based clinical best practice\, reducing the burden of melanoma and helping to reach our mission of zero deaths. \nImportantly\, the events also provide an opportunity for patients and families to come together to support each other and remember those lost to the disease. \nAustralia has the highest melanoma rates in the world\, with one person diagnosed every 30 minutes and one person dying from the disease every 6 hours. It is also the most common cancer affecting 20-39 year old Australians. Currently around 45% of advanced melanoma patients don’t respond or become resistant to new immunotherapy treatments. \nFind your local event via the button below. If there is not an event in your area\, or if you can’t attend an event\, you can still support the campaign by getting creative and hosting a March Your Way activity with friends or individually – or by making a donation. \nREGISTER NOW OR DONATECost to Register: \nCosts to attend a physical event are: \n\nAdults (over 18 years) $40\nChild (5-17 years) $20\nChild (under 5) Free\nFamily deal: Register 2 x Adults and up to 5 Children (5-17 yrs) for $80. Additional adults will be charged the full rate.\n\nRegistrations to March Your Way are half price!

SUMMARY:SunSafe Student Ambassador Program
DESCRIPTION:Ensuring teenagers are aware of the danger of melanoma and the importance of sun safety is the mission of the SunSafe peer-to-peer learning program\, an initiative of Melanoma Institute Australia run in partnership with Sydney Local Health District\, Northern Sydney Local Health District\, Cancer Council NSW and Cancer Council WA. \nSecondary schools are invited to participate in the SunSafe Student Ambassador Program by attending one of our free workshops – held in Sydney\, Perth\, Wagga Wagga and Hobart – which will empower students to share the sun-safe message in their own school. \nThe workshop trains representative students in the importance of sun safety and how to deliver an engaging presentation. The students then go back to their schools and\, using the skills they have learned\, deliver a sun-safe presentation to their peers. The program also helps students to support sun safety practices in their school beyond the presentation. \nThe workshop is run in a collaborative learning environment with local schools and has been designed to meet learning outcomes from the Years 8 and 9 PDHPE/HPE curriculum. \nFIND OUT MORE

SUMMARY:Melanoma March 2023
DESCRIPTION:Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) is calling on all Australians to step up and join its 2023 Melanoma March campaign\, to support ground-breaking research and raise awareness about the disease that claims one Australian life every six hours. \nMIA’s Melanoma March events will be held in every state and territory during March 2023. Organised by volunteer committees impacted by melanoma\, the local events raise vital funds for melanoma research as well as provide an opportunity for patients and families to come together to support each other and remember those lost to the disease. \nWe urge Australians to sign up to help us tackle this disease\, which is known as Australia’s national cancer. \nAustralia has the highest melanoma rates in the world\, with one person diagnosed every 30 minutes and one person dying from the disease every 6 hours. It is also the most common cancer affecting 20-39 year old Australians. Currently\, 50% of advanced melanoma patients don’t respond or become resistant to new immunotherapy treatments. \nMelanoma March events are a family-friendly 4km walk. Most events are pram and wheelchair accessible\, and most are dog friendly. \nThose who can’t attend an event can still support the campaign by getting active and hosting a March Your Way activity with friends or individually. \nPlease click on the website link below to find out more about your local event. \nFIND YOUR NEAREST MARCH\, REGISTER NOWCost to Register: \nCosts to attend a physical event are: \n\nAdults (over 18 years) $40\nChild (5-17 years) $20\nChild (under 5) Free\nFamily deal: Register 2 x Adults and up to 5 Children (5-17 yrs) for $100. SUMMARY:Run from the Sun Program
DESCRIPTION:Over the past five years Skin Cancer Tasmania has held an annual event called Run From The Sun (RFTS) which is the brainchild of Ken Harriss\, a nurse living with Stage IV melanoma. RFTS provides information free of charge to secondary school students and teachers around sun safety\, UV radiation and melanoma. \nMelanoma is the second most diagnosed cancer in men and women in Tasmania and the most commonly diagnosed cancer between the ages of 20-39. We lose more Tasmanians to melanoma each year than our average road toll. Yet this is a highly preventable disease. \nThis essential awareness and health promotion program is aimed at year 7 to 12 students and usually runs between 45 minutes to 1 hour. It can be tailored to specific year groups\, health studies classes or whole of school assemblies\, and will benefit both students and teaching staff. \nIn 2022\, RFTS will travel across Tasmania visiting different regions over a three-week period: \n\n5-9 September – North West and Western regions\n12- 16 September – Southern region\n19-23 September – Northern and Northeastern regions\n\nFor more information\, please email MIA Skin Cancer Tasmania via the button below\, or phone 0409 330 206. \nEMAIL TO FIND OUT MORE
