SUMMARY:Melanoma March
DESCRIPTION:Melanoma March is MIA’s flagship annual fundraising event. After a two-year hiatus due to COVID\, we are excited to welcome our dedicated community back to physical events across the country. This year’s event aims to raise $1 million to support a Personalised Immunotherapy Clinical Trial. \nThis will be the 11th year of Melanoma March\, and it remains a critical fundraiser to support our life-saving research under the leadership of Professor Georgina Long AO and Professor Richard Scolyer AO and our many collaborating institutions. \nMajor breakthroughs in treatment have been made over the past decade. However\, about 50% of advanced melanoma patients do not respond\, or become resistant\, to immunotherapy. This year we have a fundraising target of $1m to support a world-first Personalised Immunotherapy Clinical Trial. \nRegister now for your local event\, or of you can’t attend a local event you can ‘March Your Way’. \nNSW\nWagga – 13 March\nCrescent Head – 20 March\nManly – 27 March\nTamworth – 27 March\nWestern Sydney – 1 May \nACT\nCanberra – 13 March \nVIC\nMelbourne – 20 March \nQLD\nSunshine Coast – 6 March\nTownsville – 20 March\nBrisbane – 21 May\nCoolangatta – 29 May \nWA\nBunbury – 13 March\nDenmark – 19 March\nPerth – 27 March \nSA\nAdelaide – 27 March \nTAS\nHobart – 20 March \nNT\nDarwin – 26 March \nTogether we can take steps to beat melanoma. \n#MelanomaMarch \nMelanoma March is an initiative of Melanoma Institute Australia\, incorporating melanomaWA and Amie St Clair. It is proudly supported by Melanoma Patients Australia\, Australian Melanoma Research Foundation\, Skin Cancer Tasmania and other melanoma research organisations across Australia. \nREGISTER NOWHow will wet weather impact Melanoma March? \nOur thoughts are with everyone impacted by the floods. \nMIA and the Melanoma March committees are closely monitoring the weather. Melanoma March will go ahead if it is raining\, but not if conditions are unsafe. The safety of all participants is paramount. A decision will be made on the Friday before each event\, and we’ll notify registrants if their march has been cancelled.

SUMMARY:Run from the Sun Program
DESCRIPTION:Over the past five years Skin Cancer Tasmania has held an annual event called Run From The Sun (RFTS) which is the brainchild of Ken Harriss\, a nurse living with Stage IV melanoma. RFTS provides information free of charge to secondary school students and teachers around sun safety\, UV radiation and melanoma. \nMelanoma is the second most diagnosed cancer in men and women in Tasmania and the most commonly diagnosed cancer between the ages of 20-39. We lose more Tasmanians to melanoma each year than our average road toll. Yet this is a highly preventable disease. \nThis essential awareness and health promotion program is aimed at year 7 to 12 students and usually runs between 45 minutes to 1 hour. It can be tailored to specific year groups\, health studies classes or whole of school assemblies\, and will benefit both students and teaching staff. \nIn 2022\, RFTS will travel across Tasmania visiting different regions over a three-week period: \n\n5-9 September – North West and Western regions\n12- 16 September – Southern region\n19-23 September – Northern and Northeastern regions\n\nFor more information\, please email MIA Skin Cancer Tasmania via the button below\, or phone 0409 330 206. \nEMAIL TO FIND OUT MORE
