SUMMARY:Melanoma March 2024
DESCRIPTION:Melanoma March events are being held across Australia for the 13th year to raise awareness and support Melanoma Institute Australia’s life-saving research. \nMelanoma Institute Australia (MIA) is calling on all Australians to join its 2024 Melanoma March campaign\, to support life-saving research and raise awareness about the disease that claims one Australian life every six hours. \nNow open for registrations\, MIA’s Melanoma March events will be held across the country during March 2024. Organised by volunteer committees impacted by melanoma\, the local events raise vital funds for melanoma research which we hope will also impact other cancers. Importantly\, the events also provide an opportunity for patients and families to come together to support each other and remember those lost to the disease. \nAustralia has the highest melanoma rates in the world\, with one person diagnosed every 30 minutes and one person dying from the disease every 6 hours. It is also the most common cancer affecting 20-39 year old Australians. Currently\, 50% of advanced melanoma patients don’t respond or become resistant to new immunotherapy treatments. \nFind your local event via the button below. If there is not an event in your area\, or if you can’t attend an event\, you can still support the campaign by getting creative and hosting a March Your Way activity with friends or individually – or by making a donation. \nREGISTER NOW OR DONATECost to Register: \nCosts to attend a physical event are: \n\nAdults (over 18 years) $40\nChild (5-17 years) $20\nChild (under 5) Free\nFamily deal: Register 2 x Adults and up to 5 Children (5-17 yrs) for $80. Additional adults will be charged the full rate.\n\nRegistrations to March Your Way are free!

SUMMARY:SunSafe Student Ambassador Program
DESCRIPTION:Ensuring teenagers are aware of the danger of melanoma and the importance of sun safety is the mission of the SunSafe peer-to-peer learning program\, an initiative of Melanoma Institute Australia run in partnership with Sydney Local Health District\, Northern Sydney Local Health District\, Cancer Council NSW and Cancer Council WA. \nSecondary schools are invited to participate in the SunSafe Student Ambassador Program by attending one of our free workshops – held in Sydney\, Perth\, Wagga Wagga and Hobart – which will empower students to share the sun-safe message in their own school. \nThe workshop trains representative students in the importance of sun safety and how to deliver an engaging presentation. The students then go back to their schools and\, using the skills they have learned\, deliver a sun-safe presentation to their peers. The program also helps students to support sun safety practices in their school beyond the presentation. \nThe workshop is run in a collaborative learning environment with local schools and has been designed to meet learning outcomes from the Years 8 and 9 PDHPE/HPE curriculum. \nFIND OUT MORE
