Mark is married with three children and lives in Perth, WA after emigrating from the UK 11 years ago.

His melanoma journey began in 2013 after he discovered a mole on his back that had changed significantly. It was diagnosed as melanoma. Mark underwent surgery to remove it, only to discover two years later that the melanoma had returned in the same area, requiring further surgery.

In 2016, Mark was diagnosed with Stage III metastatic melanoma and had to endure further extensive surgery followed by radiation treatment. In 2017, due to serious side effects, Mark was admitted to hospital and stayed for seven weeks.

Although clear for two years, he continues to have scans every six months.

Mark now has a desire to inspire others and raise awareness.

“Melanoma patients can speak from great experience and we are generally very passionate about spreading awareness to others, especially young Australians.”

With his motto ‘do not let cancer define who you are,’ Mark feels empowered. He trains for Ironman triathlons and endurance events, including the upcoming Ultraman 2020 where he will continue to raise awareness and funds for melanoma research.

‘Exercise has become my lifestyle choice now and I strongly believe this has played a key part in my recovery and ongoing good health.’
