Steve Andrews
Steve Andrews is a Stage III melanoma survivor who is sharing his story to help change Australia’s statistics around melanoma, our national cancer.
Steve has lived an interesting life: he spent 10 years as a reserve soldier, 14 years at Commonwealth Bank, 10 years as a lawnmowing contractor, seven years in real estate, and 16 years on the oil rigs. He has volunteered on STS Leeuwin II, a tall ship, for many stints as a watch leader where he trained troubled youth and general public to sail and handle the ship and also volunteered front of house at the WAKMAS melanoma clinic. He’s blessed to be surrounded by his beautiful family and friends. It’s clear on paper (and from just five minutes of speaking to him) that Steve has a true desire to experience life at its fullest.
So when his melanoma returned as Stage III in 2017 (after having an early stage melanoma in 2004 removed), Steve’s world changed. He was quickly put on a clinical trial, which was challenging for his body, but Steve is now pleased to say that he is currently seven years cancer free.
Since his diagnosis, Steve’s goal has been to help others with melanoma. He knows how hard the journey can be, and so his mission is simple:
“If I can make just one person smile and show them that they aren’t alone on their journey, I know I’m doing my job.”
Steve is thankful for all the support he has received throughout his melanoma journey, and therefore wants to give back through educating others so they can hopefully avoid going down a similar path to him.
With a knack for storytelling, a desire for human connection and a mission to spread sun safe messaging, Steve’s Speakers’ Hub presentation is uplifting and informative.
