Melanoma March events are being held across Australia for the 13th year to raise awareness and support Melanoma Institute Australia’s life-saving research.
Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) is calling on all Australians to join its 2024 Melanoma March campaign, to support life-saving research and raise awareness about the disease that claims one Australian life every six hours.
Now open for registrations, MIA’s Melanoma March events will be held across the country during March 2024. Organised by volunteer committees impacted by melanoma, the local events raise vital funds for melanoma research which we hope will also impact other cancers. Importantly, the events also provide an opportunity for patients and families to come together to support each other and remember those lost to the disease.
Australia has the highest melanoma rates in the world, with one person diagnosed every 30 minutes and one person dying from the disease every 6 hours. It is also the most common cancer affecting 20-39 year old Australians. Currently, 50% of advanced melanoma patients don’t respond or become resistant to new immunotherapy treatments.
