We are so grateful for the efforts of our ‘Melanoma Heroes’ – all those in our community who has contributed to MIA fundraising to support our ground-breaking research and patient support services.

MIA is significantly reliant on donations and funds raised through community events, fuelling almost half of our mission activities.

35kms to honour Matty’s 35 years

One year ago, Matt Waite lost his best mate, Matty Serhan, to melanoma, at just 35 years of age. He was Matt’s best friend from school, house mate, travel companion and the best man at his wedding.

So, on Matty’s one year anniversary, Matt decided to walk 35km, 1km for every year Matty was in this world. He walked from 14 Mile Beach to Coral Bay and back along a dirt/sand track. It was pretty monotonous and not much to look at, but his body handled it well, despite no training.

Matt enjoyed having his own personal time, listening to Matty’s favourite tunes, feeling like the great man was there with him. With an incredible support network, an amazing $7,500 was raised for MIA, in honour of Matty.

Thank you Matt for continuing to honour your mate in such a special way, and for helping others battling with melanoma.

The Charity Challenge Melanoma Golf Day – Pacific Boating

What a fantastic Friday we had on August 30th at Bayview Golf Club! Thanks to Pacific Boating & The Charity Challenge’s Melanoma Golf Day, we enjoyed a day full of laughter, great conversations, and amazing golf. MIA’s CEO, Matthew Browne, presented at the event, highlighting the importance of sun safety in golf, and the groundbreaking work happening in MIA’s translational lab.

We’re thrilled to announce that a whopping $46,000 was raised for melanoma research, patient support, and education. Huge thanks to Phillip Pitt from Pacific Boating and Andrew Scott from the Boating Industry Association for making this event a wonderful success and supporting Melanoma Institute Australia.

Here’s to more fun-filled days and making a real impact!

WA Quiz Night

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent quiz night in Western Australia!

Your incredible support and participation made the evening truly special. It’s heartwarming to see our community come together, especially given the challenges many have faced with melanoma. The night was filled with laughter, friendly competition, and a wonderful sense of togetherness. We deeply appreciate your ongoing support and involvement—it’s nights like these that remind us of the strength and unity within our community. Thank you for making it such a memorable and enjoyable event.

Congratulations to Quiz Champions Maryce and ‘The Daffodils’ (shown here) for out-quizzing the other teams!
