Celebrating Maryce’s Remarkable $100,000 Milestone
On 2 August, long-time supporter Maryce Scriven hosted her 8th annual Daffodil Chef Dinner at Optus Stadium, raising an incredible $15,000 for Melanoma Institute Australia. This brings her total fundraising over the past eight years to more than $100,000 – an extraordinary achievement.
Maryce began the event in memory of her late husband, Steve, a talented chef who sadly passed away from melanoma at just 32. Since then, she has turned her loss into lasting impact, hosting quiz nights, taking part in Melanoma March, and supporting a range of community initiatives that continue Steve’s legacy.
Maryce’s passion and commitment are an inspiration to us all. Her dedication reminds us how one person’s determination can make a lasting difference in the fight against melanoma.

Tee-ing Off for a Cause: Pacific Boating Charity Challenge Golf Day
In September, Pacific Boating hosted their annual Charity Challenge Golf Day, bringing together colleagues, clients, and friends from across the boating industry for a fantastic day on the green in support of Melanoma Institute Australia.
This year’s event was another huge success, combining friendly competition with generosity, and helping to raise vital funds for melanoma research, treatment, and education.
We were honoured to have Tim Regan, our MIA Interim CEO, attend and speak at the event, sharing how funds raised help drive our vital work in research, clinical care, and education.
Our sincere thanks to the Pacific Boating, The Charity Challenge, the Boating Industry Association team and everyone who took part for their generosity and continued support of our mission to achieve zero deaths from melanoma.

Honouring Terry Raper: A Community Tradition of Generosity
For the team at Revesby Workers Bowlers Club, community spirit and generosity have been rolling strong for nearly two decades. Since 2007, the club has proudly hosted the Terry Raper Memorial Bowls Tournament each year, raising vital funds in honour of Terry and in support of Melanoma Institute Australia.
This wonderful annual tradition continues to make an incredible difference. The 2025 event raised an impressive $3,000, helping to fund life-changing research, treatment, and education programs as we work towards our mission of zero deaths from melanoma.
We are so grateful to Dave, Geoff, and everyone at Revesby Workers Bowlers Club for their ongoing commitment and compassion, and for keeping Terry’s legacy alive through such a meaningful community event.
Honouring Gina: Lily’s 10km Tribute at Bridge to Brisbane
When Lily laced up her runners for this year’s Bridge to Brisbane, every step was in memory of her friend, Gina Savage, who passed away in 2023 after a courageous battle with melanoma.
Gina’s journey with melanoma began when she was just 20 years old. Over the years, she endured countless invasive surgeries, including bowel resections, the removal of 60 lymph nodes and 17 melanoma tumours, and at just 27, the loss of her ovaries. Despite everything, Gina’s strength and kindness never wavered. She touched the lives of many, including Lily, offering support and hope even while facing her own challenges.
Now, Lily is paying that strength forward. After her own cancer journey with chondrosarcoma and major leg surgery to have metal and screws inserted in her femur, she’s taking on her first 10km run since recovery – in Gina’s honour.
“Gina was selfless, brave and full of light. This run is my way of celebrating her life and continuing her fight against melanoma,” says Lily.
Lily raised nearly $2,000 in Gina’s honour. Thank you Lily, for your dedication and for honouring Gina in such a beautiful way.

Running for Mum: Jacqui and Edinson’s Bridge to Brisbane Challenge
This year’s Bridge to Brisbane saw supporters Jacqui and her boyfriend, Edinson, take on the 10km event in honour of Jacqui’s mum, who is currently undergoing treatment for stage IV melanoma.
Wanting to give back and raise awareness, the couple chose Melanoma Institute Australia as their charity of choice, dedicating their run to supporting ongoing research, education, and improved treatment outcomes for others facing melanoma.
Jacqui’s wish was to honour her mum’s strength and contribute to the mission of zero deaths from melanoma.
We’re so grateful to Jacqui and Edinson for turning their care and determination into action, and for helping to make a difference for families affected by melanoma across Australia.
