The creative ways our dedicated community fundraise for MIA never ceases to amaze us! We are so appreciative of their efforts, which help fund our life-saving research.
Dubbo West Rotary Club Book Fair
Dubbo West Rotary Club made a first-time donation to the Melanoma Institute of Australia (MIA). As a Rotary club based in the central west of NSW, they have a focus on doing good through service for the community of Dubbo and surrounding regions. The club is aware that timely access to melanoma skin checks is an issue, particularly for regional areas.
The members of Dubbo West Rotary Club run the Michael Egan Memorial Book Fair, which raised approximately $25,000 for donations to charities related to cancer and local health care. The Book Fair was established to honour Michael Egan, a Rotarian who lost his life to cancer. Dubbo West Rotary Club made an incredible $5000 donation from these funds to MIA.
Beau goes bald!
Beau decided to shave his head and go bald, to honour loved ones lost from melanoma, and ensure their memory lives on. Thanks for your amazing support, Beau!
ECTARC Walking Challenge
Early Childhood Services, Training and Professional Development (ECTARC) is proud to host an annual walking challenge and this year supported MIA, in memory of Alex Mezedi, a beloved member of the extended ECTARC family. Alex, husband to colleague Sarah and father to Ronan and Anna, sadly passed away just 15 weeks after being diagnosed with melanoma.
Known for his warmth and larger-than-life personality, Alex touched countless lives during his 28 years with ECTARC. His story reminds us that melanoma can affect anyone, regardless of health or lifestyle, highlighting the importance of sun safety and knowing your skin. By supporting this cause, the team at ECTARC hope to raise awareness and contribute to ongoing research that is improving treatment outcomes.
Rachael & Christian’s wedding
In September, Rachael & Christian had a beautiful wedding ceremony. Instead of giving wedding favours to their guests they decided to make an incredibly generous donation to Melanoma Institute Ausrtalia. They created a themed card to let their guests know about their selfless gesture, which will help us reach our mission of zero deaths from melanoma.
UNSW Dermatology Society Bunnings Sausage Sizzle
A huge thank you to the University of NSW (UNSW) Dermatology Society, who chose to do a sausage sizzle at Bunnings, Eastgarden, to support MIA.
“As a student society committed to dermatological education and advocacy, we recognise the vital role that Melanoma Institute of Australia plays in research, treatment, and prevention of Melanoma. Given the increasing prevalence of this life-threatening condition, we are eager to support efforts through our fundraising initiatives.” – Madeline Wang, President of the UNSW Dermatology Society.
The day was a great success, and we are so grateful for the wonderful support!
OG24 Brokers Conference
During the week of September 16, Oracle Group Insurance Brokers hosted the #OG24 Brokers Conference, where Executive Director Matthew Denehy took the opportunity to share his personal melanoma journey with attendees. His courageous decision to raise both awareness and funds for MIA has resonated strongly with the audience, generating nearly $10,000 in donations to date.
We’re so grateful for Matthew’s generosity and his commitment to spreading the important message of sun safety and melanoma prevention.
In Memory Pages
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have honoured the memory of their loved ones by setting up a dedicated fundraising page in their honour.
Your compassion and support have not only honoured the legacies of those dear to you but have also contributed significantly to our shared mission.
In this period, we honour those who have sadly lost their battle with melanoma: Sandy Hinton, Betty McLennan, Judith Fuller, Pat Penny, Andrea Armstrong, Joan Olson and Peter McKee.
