Each month we shine a spotlight on the amazing fundraisers in our community, whose dedication and creativity never cease to inspire us. From hair chops and golf days to half marathons, elegant events, Facebook fundraisers and more!
Krystal’s Half Marathon for Her Mum
In a powerful tribute to her mum, Krystal completed the HBF Run for a Reason half marathon — her first ever — raising awareness and funds for melanoma research. Krystal’s mum passed away from melanoma after 13 months of treatment, facing every step with fierce determination. “She remained focused on what was working and what else she could try,” Krystal shared. That same tenacity inspired Krystal to take on this challenge, driven by the words her mum often said: “I wouldn’t bet against you, Krystal.” Her mum was courageous, open to every treatment — not just for herself, but in the hope her experience could help others in the future. “That’s the kind of woman my Mum was,” Krystal says. “Even as she faced her own mortality, she was always thinking of others”. Thank you, Krystal, for continuing the fight against melanoma and honouring your mum’s legacy with such strength and compassion.

Conners Event
A huge thank you to Michelle Conners and her incredible community, who recently came together for a special event which raised an amazing $12,000 in support of Melanoma Institute Australia!
Michelle’s personal journey with melanoma — and her strength, resilience and drive to give back — inspires us! We’re so grateful for her support and to everyone who showed up to make a difference.
Your generosity fuels life-saving research and brings us closer to zero deaths from melanoma.

Oli’s Crazy Haircut for a Cause!
Big shoutout to the brave and big-hearted Oli from Calderwood Christian School, who stole the show on Crazy Hair Day by cutting off his long locks—all in the name of supporting Melanoma Institute Australia! In front of a cheering crowd at school assembly, Oli’s bold act helped raise over $2,000, contributing to a total of more than $2,750 raised by the Junior School. With colourful hair, plenty of spirit, and a shared message about sun safety, the students turned a fun day into an event with meaningful impact. Thank you, Oli and Calderwood Christian School, for helping us change the future for those affected by melanoma.

Janine’s Story: A Tee-rific melanoma fundraiser
Janine, a PGA Professional and passionate advocate for women’s golf, shared her personal journey at this year’s Chip n Sip fundraiser—a day of golf, connection and purpose. Ten years ago, Janine was diagnosed with Stage I melanoma, hidden under what looked like a harmless freckle. That moment changed everything.
Fast forward to now, and Janine is not only thriving—she’s also helped save her husband Peter’s life. After convincing him to get a skin check, Peter was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic melanoma. Thanks to immunotherapy and expert care, Peter is now in remission and living life to the fullest.
Janine’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of early detection and the life-changing research and care made possible by our supporters. Thank you to everyone who joined the Chip n Sip event—your support is helping fund hope for families like Janine and Peter’s.

In Memory Pages
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have honoured the memory of their loved ones by setting up a dedicated fundraising page in their honour.
Your compassion and support have not only honoured the legacies of those dear to you but have also contributed significantly to our mission.
In this period, we honour those who have sadly lost their battle with melanoma: Kim Garrow.
