This month, our amazing community has been busy lacing up their runners, going alcohol-free, celebrating milestones, and honouring loved ones – all to support Melanoma Institute Australia. From conquering marathons and braving the wettest City2Surf in years, to giving up birthday presents in favour of donations and creating heartfelt In Memory pages, your generosity and passion have shone through.
City2Surf Champions Raise Over $40,000 for MIA – Rain, Puddles & All!
What a day! The 2025 City2Surf might have been the wettest in years, but that didn’t stop our incredible team of MIA supporters from lacing up, braving the rain, and powering through the puddles. Together, you raised more than $40,000 to help us move closer to our mission of zero deaths from melanoma. Because of your efforts, those battling melanoma will have better access to life-saving treatment, clinical trials, and hope for a future free from this disease.
This was Richard Church’s 34th City2Surf, which he ran with his granddaughter Issy. Since a melanoma diagnosis 18 years ago Richard has run to support MIA and has raised well over $65,000 – an incredible effort!
The “Buzzing for a cure” team, through fundraising events & running the City2Surf, managed to raise over $30k for MIA this year, honouring Claire’s father who sadly passed away from melanoma a few years ago.
From all of us at Melanoma Institute Australia – thank you for your generosity, determination, and heart. You didn’t just conquer the City2Surf… you’re helping to save lives.

Running with Purpose – Oliver’s Marathon for Melanoma
Earlier this month, Oliver took on the Sunshine Coast Marathon – all 42km – in honour of his dad, who is currently battling melanoma. Inspired by the time they spent running the City2Surf together last year, Oliver ran this race powered by love, hope, and his father’s strength.
His incredible effort raised $5,636 to support Melanoma Institute Australia’s life-saving research, treatment, and education programs. Thank you, Oliver, for going the distance for your dad and for every family impacted by melanoma.

Going Dry for July – Luke’s Tribute to His Dad
In honour of his dad, Luke took on the challenge of Dry July – giving up alcohol for the month to raise vital funds for Melanoma Institute Australia. His dedication and generosity inspired friends and family to rally behind him, and together they raised an amazing $3,705 to support our work in research, treatment, and education.
Thank you, Luke, for turning your personal tribute into a powerful act of support for every family impacted by melanoma.

Run Melbourne
From “I don’t run” (1995–2024) to smashing a half marathon in 2025 – Bec, you absolute legend!
On 13 July, Bec took on the Run Melbourne Half Marathon and raised over $6,500 for MIA, all in honour of her sister Amy, who is currently halfway through preventative immunotherapy after being diagnosed with Stage III melanoma last year.
Bec set herself a wild challenge, stepped way outside her comfort zone, and did it all to give back – helping to fund research, education and treatment for others facing this brutal disease.
Thank you Bec for your strength, your heart, and your incredible support. You’ve inspired us all.

In Memory Pages
Creating an In Memory fundraising page is such a heartfelt way to celebrate the life of a loved one while making a difference for others. This month, we acknowledge Ruby, who set up a page in honour of her partner, Emily Robertson-Miller, who sadly and suddenly passed from melanoma last month, raising an incredible $4,250. Our thoughts are with Ruby, Nat, Josh and the rest of Emily’s loved ones during this sad time.
If you would like to organise a community fundraiser to support Melanoma Institute Australia, we’d love to hear from you. Please see our website, using link below, or email Peta on fundraise@melanoma.org.au
