The end of the year is fast approaching and it’s time to thank our amazing community fundraisers. We would also like to recognise those fundraisers who had to postpone their events due to COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns. We are looking forward to welcoming back your events as we all work towards zero deaths from melanoma.

Jalen is an amazing young fundraiser from Perth who grew his hair for three years in honour of his beautiful mum Diana who had stage IV melanoma. Sadly, Diana mum passed away in June, and so in July, Jalen cut off his long locks and raised over $62,000 for MIA’s vital research. Our thoughts are with Jalen and we are so grateful to him and his supportive family and community.

The fourth annual Daffodil Chef Dinner was held on 28 August in memory of Steve Scriven. Steve was a chef who had a love of good food, good wine, and good company. Hosted by his wife, Maryce, the night was a wonderful way to remember her husband and raised over $7000 allowing us to continue providing support services in WA.

Renae Moresby from Sax Sea Boutique in Hillarys WA featured Bianca D’Ascenzo in their August campaign. Having had melanoma, Bianca chose to support MIA and Sax Sea donated a percentage of their sales from a weekend in August, raising over $300!

Naked Sundays pledged to donate 10% of their SPF product sales from their Give melanoma the cold shoulder campaign where they asked their ambassadors and community to go bare-faced and bared-shouldered on social media on 26 September to raise awareness about melanoma and $3287 for MIA.  Thank you Samantha Brett and the Naked Sundays team!

And finally we would like to thank the friends and family who collectively raised $8915 by creating In Memory fundraising pages for loved ones lost – Remembering JC (Callaghan), In Memory of Brett, and In Memory of Marian Dickinson. It’s a beautiful way to honour your loved ones and your generosity will help us do more research so we can lessen the impact of melanoma on the lives of others.

Thank you to all our community fundraisers. We are so grateful for you commitment and dedication to helping us move closer to zero deaths from melanoma.

If you would like to organise a community fundraiser to support Melanoma Institute Australia, we’d love to hear from you. Please see our website, using link below, or email us at fundraise@melanoma.org.au
