Our wonderful community fundraisers continue to inspire us with their courage and creativity. During March there were channel swims, a mountain bike challenge, a quiz night and In Memory dedications.
Rottnest Channel Swim
This year, we had two teams enter the South32 Rottnest Channel Swim in WA, in support of MIA, raising in excess of $10,000. This is the largest open-water swim in the world (19.7km) from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island (Wadjemup). Both teams have braved this before, and we thank them for their support.
‘Team Leishman’ swam in honour of their good friend Tom Leishman who died at the young age of 17, raising over $4500. Team ‘Just Keep Swimming, Just Keep Swimming’ swam in support of a loved one fighting melanoma, raising over $5700.
Hurley’s ‘Air Ya Garn’ laps for melanoma
In early March, 8 year old Hurley from Tasmania, completed an amazing 20 laps of the ‘Air Ya Garn’ trail on his mountain bike. He did this in honour of his nan who lost her battle to melanoma when he was only 10 months old. What a great challenge to set himself, all while raising awareness and an incredible $2000 for melanoma research. We think he’s a little legend!
WA Quiz Night for Melanoma
Thanks to brother and sister duo, Brayden and Ashleigh who hosted a Quiz Night for Melanoma Fundraiser in North Perth, WA. The night was a successful sell-out, with over 150 people in attendance, raising $7000.
