Prof Georgina Long and Prof Richard Scolyer have been named in Top 52 News Makers for 2023 by the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) ‘Good Weekend’ magazine.

We are so proud to have our Co-Medical Directors named in the Top 52 News Makers for 2023. It is an amazing accolade for the entire Melanoma Institute Australia multidisciplinary team working towards zero deaths from melanoma and whose breakthroughs are now also transforming other cancers.
“Professors Richard Scolyer and Georgina Long have packed into 2023 what many researchers would be content to achieve in a career. The pair have presented their research at international conferences, addressed the National Press Club and been named NSW’s Australians of the Year for 2024 in recognition of their work improving melanoma survival rates. But every second counts for Scolyer; in May, he was diagnosed with an ultra-aggressive brain cancer. Since then, the colleagues and close friends have applied to Scolyer’s brain the world-first immunotherapy treatments they so successfully used to curb melanoma. In just a few short months, they’ve opened up new horizons in the fields of immunotherapy and neuro-oncology, using Scolyer’s brain as a one-man clinical trial.” – SMH Good Weekend
