A contingent of Melanoma Institute Australia researchers and clinicians have been in Athens for the 11th World Congress of Melanoma which was held in conjunction with the European Association of Dermato-Oncology (EADO) Congress.

The 3-day conference attracted some 2,000 attendees from around the world for a comprehensive overview of the most recent advances in melanoma and cutaneous oncology.

MIA Medical Director Professor Georgina Long AO delivered a keynote lecture titled ‘Neoadjuvant therapy: a new standard of care for melanomas?’

Other MIA researchers and clinicians invited to speak in Athens on latest research and clinical advances were MIA’s Associate Professor Alexander van Akkooi, Professor Anne Cust, Professor Peter Soyer and Associate Professor James Wilmot, as well as past MIA fellows who are now leaders in their respective fields.

‘This is the first of several large international conferences this year at which Melanoma Institute Australia’s leading researchers and clinicians will update global colleagues on research advances and subsequent changes to clinical practice,’ Prof Long said from Athens.

‘The MIA contingent in Athens covered a range of specialities including medical oncology, surgery, radiation oncology and dermatology, as well as our world-leading researchers, showcasing MIA’s multidisciplinary approach to pushing melanoma research and treatment forward for the benefit of all patients globally.’
